    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a stop damping characteristic of a color display body by generating power in a coil utilizing inertia energy by movement of a magnet during a non-exciting period and applying dynamoelectrical braking by short- circuiting both ends of a coil having generating energy. SOLUTION: While a color display body 78 is being rotated and it is between an accelerating period and decelerating period or it is between a decelerating period and a braking period, coils 67-70 are made a non-exciting state. When a magnet 66 is passed through near the coils 67-70 being not excited, electromotive force is generated in the coils 67-70 by influence of the magnet 66. In this time, a closed circuit including the coils 67-70 is formed, a current by electromotive force is made to flow in the coils 67-70, and a magnetic field is generated around the coils. That is, the magnet 66 is passed through the coils 67-70, electromotive force is generated in respective coil the coils 67-70 are short-circuited by a circuit constituted by transistors and diodes or a switch, force of dynamoelectrical braking is generated by a current by electromotive force.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply a dynamic brake to a color displaying body that is vibrating, reduce the time until the color display body is stopped, and enhance,the quality and reliability of display, by forming a period of non-excitation within a braking period. SOLUTION: For a driving period 14 both driving pulses A and B are constituted by a chopper system, and the timing of the period of non-excitation A29 of braking pulses A28 for the driving pulses A is equalized to the timing of the period of non-excitation B33 of braking pulses B32 for the driving pulses B. When the braking pulses A28, B32 are applied to coils, magnetic poles are produced at stators 63a-d, which acts as an attraction brake that attracts the north pole of a magnet 66 to a stop position B by means of the south poles of the stators 63b, 63c. However, the north pole of the magnet 66 rotates and goes past the stop position B to position 42, and thereafter stops in the stop position B. Since the periods of non-excitation A29 and non-excitation B33 are periods during which the coils are in non-excitation, the applied voltage to both coils is zero. Thereby, the effect of dynamic brake is produced and the stop timing characteristics of a color displaying body is enhanced.
