    • PURPOSE:To provide a sintered friction material which does not cause seizing and makes little abnormal noise during sliding movement against a frictional surface and has excellent initial sliding properties, prepd. by forming a phosphate film and an MoS2 film on the surface of an iron-based sintered material not contg. Mn. CONSTITUTION:Alloying components such as copper powder, graphite powder, Ni and Mo are added to iron powder in an amt. of 0.1-8wt% and the mixt. is formed into shape under a pressure of 4-10 ton/cm and the formed product is sintered at 1,000-1,300 deg.C to obtain an iron-based sintered material in which the ratio of true density to apparent density is 75-95% and which contains no Mn. The sintered material is soaked in a mixed soln. of phosphate of a divalent metal [e.g. Zn(H2PO4)2] and orthophosphoric acid, treated at 90-100 deg.C for 10- 15min, washed with cold or hot water and dried to form a phosphate film in the thickness of 0.5-30g/m on the surface. A coating soln. prepd. by dispersing 10-30wt% MoS2 which has a purity of 99% or higher and in which particles with a diameter of 50mu or smaller account for 85% or higher, in a liquid organic resin binder, is applied over the phosphate film, followed by baking to form a 3-20mu thick film of MoS2.
