    • PURPOSE:To directly synthesize a fulleren derivative by packing lanthanum oxide in the interior of a graphite crucible, heating the crucible by resistance to produce ultra-fine particles and then extracting these particles using toluene. CONSTITUTION:Granular lanthanum oxide (La2O3) 40 is packed in the interior of a graphite crucible 12 and the crucible 12 is placed in a producing furnace 10. Then alternating current is fed from a an electric current device 30 to the space between the upper electrode 14 and the lower electrode 16 in a state of pulse. In this time, helium gas is passed through the crucible 12. The inside and outside of the graphite crucible is raised until about 3000 deg.C to produce ultra-fine particles in large amounts. These ultra-fine particles are carried together with a carrier gas to a dust filter 28, where these particles are captured. The produced ultra-fine particles are led to a dissolving tank 32, where these particles are brought into contact with toluene. 200-500cc toluene based on 1g ultra-fine particles containing about 10% fulleren is used. The ultra-fine particles are immersed in the toluene at room temperature for about 24hr to provide a solution having wine color. A fulleren derivative containing a CO group and a carboxyl group in C60 is contained in the resultant solution.
