    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new ultraviolet absorber.SOLUTION: The production of an ultraviolet absorber is carried out by the degradation, separation and extraction, for example, of a plant material containing lignocellulose. Concretely, the methods are exemplified by a method of inserting the plant material containing the lignocellulose and an oxidation catalyst such as copper oxide into a pressure-resistant container, and heating the container to about 20-300°C, and a method of inserting the oxidation catalyst such as the copper oxide into the plant material containing the lignocellulose, and subjecting the product to a microwave treatment capable of locally controlling the output in a short time. As a result, a compound absorbing ultraviolet rays in a long wavelength region can efficiently be prepared, and also a compound peculiar to a lignin-degradated product can be prepared.
