    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process to manufacture hydrogen peroxide from inexpensive coal tar and oxygen using light energy as the energy source in place of the conventional energy-intensive processes.
      SOLUTION: The manufacturing process of hydrogen peroxide comprises irradiating coal tar and oxygen with visible light in the presence of a photocatalyst composed of 9-mesityl-10-methylacridinium ion or irradiating oxygen and at least one kind selected from the group consisting of anthracene and monoalkyl-substituted derivatives of anthracene, alkyl-substituted derivatives of naphthalene and alkoxy-derivatives of naphthalene with visible light in the presence of a photocatalyst composed of 9-mesityl-10-methylacridinium ion.
