    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modify a conventional extruder by a simple treatment so that faults of the conventional extruder are evaded, and further a squeeze operation for each requirement on its use is adaptable and discharging from and cleaning of the extruder are simply conducted. SOLUTION: A continuous extruder for dewatering a suspension comprises: a screw shaft for feeding the suspension, which is rotationally driven; a casing surrounding the screw of the screw shaft and a compression section with a variable squeeze, which is formed downstream from the screw; a feeding port for a suspension to be dewatered, which is formed at one inlet-side end of the extruder; and a discharging port for a dewatered suspension, which is formed downstream in the compression section and at the other outlet-side end of the extruder. The casing is formed as a filter casing permeable to liquids and impermeable to solids, and the casing for the region of the compression section, where the screw is not provided, is movable in the direction of the shaft to change the effective length of the compression section. At that time, the casing is moved adjustably between a zero position, where the effective length of the compression section comes to a value of zero and the discharging from the extruder is conducted, and a use position, where the effective length of the compression section and the compression pressure in the compression section, which is obtained by the effective length, come to desired use values. The curved injection tube (5) moves in a curved state to provide a cake by shearing action, supporting the vertical attitudinal cake by bending resistance. Then the vertical attitudinal dewatering cylinder (1) receives consolidating action by friction resistance between the force of gravity and the filtering surface to dewater and hollow out the curved expression tube (9) while bearing back pressure from the expression tube (9), and allows the resulting tube (9) to uniformize the variation in moisture content of the cake, to discharge water.
