    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting device for cutting a structure constituting one part of an automobile.
      SOLUTION: This invention relates to safety of an automobile including a device for cutting, for example, a structure such as an instrument panel to actuate a safety device. Especially, this cutting device (1) cuts a structure constituting one part of the automobile. The device comprises a linear-shaped gunpowder (5) arranged in a flatten deformable tube (6). The tube (6) is deformed in a manner to enlarge a cross section of the tube (6) by combustion of the gunpowder (5), so that the structure (3) is destroyed by the deformation. A main characteristic of the cutting device is that combustion speed of the gunpowder (5) is lower than 3,000 m/sec.

    • The present invention involve a method for severance of materials made of polycarbonate, polycarbonate laminate and aciylic/polycarbonate laminate, a canopy fracturing system and a conopy having the canopy fracturing system. The present invention utilizes a linear shaped explosive charge placed at a predetermined distance or stand off from the polycarbonate material to be severed. The coreload of the charge is determined such that the minimum coreload necessary to effect severance of a given thickness of polycarbonate material is utilized. A retainer is placed around the charge and affixed to the material such that the charge is at the proper stand off from the material. The retainer surrounds the back side of the charges but leaves open space between the charge and the material to be severed. Upon detonation, the charge creates an explosive cutting force, or jet blast, that severs the polycarbonate material. Also, provided are methods for intersecting explosive charges about a pattern to be severed and methods for transferring detonation between such intersecting explosive charges.

The position of the hydraulic pressurizing member 8 is detected. The detected position signal of the hydraulic pressurizing member 8 is compared with the position command signal for setting the regulated position. While the difference between the position signal and the position command signal is controlled so that the difference is made zero, the hydraulic pressurizing member 8 existing in the retreat position is moved to the regulated position and thereafter, the prescribed side pressure is applied to the side pressure transmission cylinder 3, by which the workpiece 1 is cut in a diametral direction. The hydraulic pressurizing member 8 is moved from the regulated position to the retreat position after the cutting.
