    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an armrest easy to use for a user by the armrest being agilely and easily locked in a desired position in an adjustable armrest assembly where the armrest is moved from a normal use position to a retreat position.
      SOLUTION: The adjustable armrest 6 of a chair is provided with an armrest base member 12 and a support member 10. The support member 10 is slidably connected to the armrest base member 12; the support member 10 can be moved between a first position and a second position in a first direction and in a second direction to the armrest member 12; the support member 10 is energized in the first position. The armrest member 12 is provided with a retaining device for retaining the support member 10 optionally in the second position. The retaining device is provided with a catch 21 and a movable retaining member 17 able to engage with the catch 21 and retaining the support member 10 in the second position by the catch 21. Removal of the retaining member 17 from the catch 21 at a move of the support member 10 allows the support member 10 to move to the armrest member 12.

The chair also has gas springs 46 and 28 to be extended/contracted when the lock is released to turn the footrest or the backrest, and the operation lever 60 for operating the gas springs. A recess 62 is formed on a side of the chair, and a stopper 69 is mounted inside the recess 62 for pivoting the operation lever 60 turnably to be operated from outside of the recess and limiting the range of turning of the operation lever.     • The adjustment mechanism contains a pneumatic spring that is placed vertically in the underframe, for adjusting height, and a pneumatic spring that is linked to the seat support at one end and the back-rest at the other, for synchronized adjustment of the angle. The pivotable back-rest and the fixed seat support are coupled with each other on the main rotational axis in two hinge connections. The main rotational axis runs above and crosswise over the seat plate. The seat plate has guide cranks on its underside, the supporting arms of the seat support engaging is said guide cranks in such a way that they can slide crosswise to the main rotational axis. The front bearing pegs of the supporting arms engage in the guide cranks. The seat plate is coupled together with the inclination spring on the moving rotational axis on the back-rest. The invention also relates to a back cover with a variably positionable lumbar reinforcement insert and height-adjustable armrests. The inventive adjustment mechanism offers efficient and comfortable synchronization between the sequences of movement of the back-rest and the seat plate.
