    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly detect a machining start position in a machine tool for super precision cutting, whose movable axis is supported by a fluid bearing. SOLUTION: A workpiece is mounted on a rotary table of a B-axis, and the rotary table is mounted on an X-axis of a linear drive axis. A tool is mounted on a Y-axis. Also, the Y-axis is mounted on the Z-axis. The X-axis is moved forward and backward every time when the Z-axis is moved by a predetermined amount, and a processing surface of the workpiece is scanned so as to judge whether a positional deviation of the X-, Y-, and B-axis reaches a reference value or more(S1, S3, S7, S8). The Y-axis is driven, so that the tool approaches the workpiece by a predetermined amount (S9, S10) for scanning. When the positional deviation of the X-, Y-, and B-axis reaches the reference value or more, it is judged that the tool comes into contact with the workpiece. Then, a contact point is stored as a machining start position, and the Y-axis is skipped, so as to move the tool in a direction separating from the workpiece by a predetermined amount.
