    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a latch device capable of reducing an operating physical force required for an opening operation of an operating handle, while reducing manufacturing costs and downsizing the device. SOLUTION: This latch device 10 comprises: a latch 21 which is rotatably arranged on a side door, and which is put into the state of being meshed with a striker arranged in a vehicle body; a ratchet 22 which is engaged with the latch 21 by making an engaging motion, so as to maintain the meshed state, and which makes a release motion so as to release the meshed state; and an open lever 30 which makes a door opening motion by the opening operation of the operating handle. The latch device 10 is equipped with a lever member 51 which abuts on the latch 21 in the meshed state, excessively swings the latch 21 in the direction of a closing motion and releases the state of the engagement of the latch 21 with the rachet 22, by the time the ratchet 22 makes a release motion after the operating handle is operated for the opening of the door.
