摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the manufacturing cost of an element and prevent impairing of the quality and reliability.SOLUTION: A gas bearing element 10 has a housing 11 formed with recesses 15 in the surface of a housing body 12, in which an open side of the housing body is closed with a cover (14). The recesses 15 are bounded by rib-like intermediate walls 16 and/or other island-like projections 17 and, between them, first intermediate spaces 18 are determined. The cover is formed of a cast molding compound which is cured with an open foam reinforcement mat 22 attached at least partly. The cast molding compound has a flat surface which is machined after curing, and the surface forms a bearing surface 30 of the gas bearing element 10. The bearing surface has a plurality of gas outlet nozzles 26' which are formed by micro holes 26 penetrating the cover, and under a location where the micro holes are provided, the first intermediate spaces are placed under the cover and form compressed air supply channels 18' for the gas outlet nozzles.

Therefore, there is no possibility that the lubricating film 47 may be deformed between the lower surface 44a of the bushing 44 and the stepped surface 413 of the shaft 41 so that the axial displacement of a hub 42 with respect to the shaft 41 and the inclination of the hub 42 can be prevented. In the manufacturing steps, it is possible to preferably form the lubricating film 47 in the region by forming an original coating for the lubricating film 47 on the bushing 44 and then cutting the bushing 44 and the surface of the coating.
