    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish two-way serial data communication by means of fewer signal terminals than before. SOLUTION: A serial interface device includes a first signal terminal 104 shared as a data transmission terminal and a second control signal terminal, a second signal terminal 105 shared as a data reception terminal and a first control signal terminal, and four buffer amplifiers 107, 108, 110 and 111. A CPU 101, when sending a first control signal to a mating device and later receiving both two different types of second control signals from the mating device, sends a serial data signal to the mating device via the first signal terminal, then sends a serial data signal representing an end notification via the first signal terminal at the end of the serial data signal to be sent, and in response, receives a second control signal from the mating device to determine the data communication end, which implements half duplex data communication using two signal terminals.
