    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for establishing a diagnostic transmission mode and diagnostic communication. SOLUTION: When a trigger such as the exceedance of an error threshold or the direction of a user is detected, a diagnostic link system enters a diagnostic information transmission mode. It is enabled for two modems to exchange diagnostic and/or test information that is not exchanged during normal communication. The diagnostic information transmission mode is initiated by the transmission of an initial diagnostic link mode message to a receiver modem which is performed by a cyclic redundancy check. The receiver modem determines, based on the CRC, whether or not a robust communication channel exists. When the robust communications channel exists, the two modems can initiate to exchange the diagnostic and/or test information. When, on the other hand, no robust communications channel exists, the transmission electric power of the transmitting modem is increased and the initial diagnostic link mode message is re-transmitted to the receiver modem until it is decided that the CRC is correct.
