    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of optical signals due to crosstalk between an optical signal to be added and one to be dropped, by a simple configuration. SOLUTION: A bidirectional optical add-drop multiplexer comprises at least two sets of a wavelength division multiplexer and an optical circulator. The wavelength division multiplexers 204 and 206 drop by multiplexing of an optical signal of a predetermined wavelength from a corresponding signal among a first and a second wavelength division multiplexing optical signals transmitted in mutually opposite directions between nodes of an optical communication network of a bidirectional wavelength division multiplexing system, through an optical transmission path. The multiplexers add the optical signal of the predetermined wavelength to a corresponding signal among the first and the second wavelength division multiplexing optical signals by multiplexing. The optical circulators 208 and 210 separate the path of an optical signal to be dropped and the path of one to be added by the corresponding wavelength division multiplexers 204 and 206, respectively.
