摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and low noise brush motor for an electric power steering unit exhibiting a good steering feeling in which temperature rise is reduced effectively at a brush section and the number of components is decreased.
SOLUTION: The brush motor for an electric power steering unit comprises an armature 4 consisting of four field sections 3, and a cylindrical commutator 7 having a lap winding 9 formed on a core 5 provided with twenty two slots 8 and a hook 12 for connecting the winding 9 to one end of twenty two commutator segments 10 where each commutator segment 10 is provided, on the inner circumferential surface side thereof, with a protrusion 33 for preventing projection of the commutator segment 10 over the substantially entire region in the axial direction and the commutator segments 10 are integrally resin molded, and four brushes 18 sliding on the outer circumferential surface of the commutator segments 10. When the sliding part of the brush 18 is cut perpendicularly to the axial direction, the commutator 7 satisfies a relation 0.18≤(A×N)/(D×D)≤0.23, assuming the cross-sectional area of one commutator segment 10 is A (square mm), the number of the commutator segments 10 is N, and the diameter of the outer circumferential surface of the commutator segment 10 is D (mm).
