    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording head, which prevents unintended erasure of information in non-recording period, by adjusting magnetic domain structures in a magnetic pole layer. SOLUTION: A main pole layer 10 is constituted so as to include a tip portion 10A having a width W1 defining a recorded track width on a recording medium, and a length L1, a middle portion 10B having a width gradually widening from the width W1 to a width W2 (W2>W1) wider than the width W1, and a length L2, and a back end portion 10C having a width W3 (W3>W2) wider than the width W2, and a length L3. When a ratio W3/(L1+L2+L3) is set so as to fill a relation of W3/(L1+L2+L3)≥1.0, the magnetic domain structures of the main pole layer 10 are adjusted so that it becomes hard to leak unnecessary magnetic flux in non-recording period, based on the magnetic anisotropy by shape of the main pole layer 10.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head capable of preventing information which is already recorded on a recording medium from being erased by suppressing unintentional write-in to adjacent tracks. SOLUTION: A main magnetic pole layer 10 is constituted so that a height H2 of an extension end face M2 in a lower main magnetic pole layer 10A which specifies an extension width part P2 becomes lower than an height H1 of an exposed face M1 in an upper main magnetic pole layer 10B (tip part 10B1) which specifies a constant width part P1. Since an area of the extension width face M2 is narrowed to an area of the exposed face M1, even when an amount of magnetic flux flowing in an inside of the lower main magnetic layers 10A becomes large when recording information, a magnetic flux flowing the inside of the lower main magnetic pole layer 10A becomes hard to be radiated unintentionally from the extension width end face M2 towards a recording medium without passing the upper magnetic pole layer 10B (the tip part 10B1) as compared with the case where the height H2 of the extension width end face M2 is equal to the height H1 of the exposed face M1.     • PURPOSE:To reduce magnetic leakage, and to improve a magnetic conversion efficiency, by joining in one body a substrate on which a lower magnetic layer, a winding layer and other magnetic head component parts have been formed, and a protective plate on which an upper magnetic layer has been formed.
