    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve data relocation according to a policy of a user under an environment in which a plurality of storage devices coexist.SOLUTION: Volumes owned by storage devices A-D are virtually managed in a unified manner. A host recognizes the plurality of storage devices A-D as one virtual storage device. A user is able to arbitrarily group each volume owned by a storage system as a plurality of storage layers 1-3. It is possible to separately define,for instance, the storage layer 1 as a high reliable layer, the storage layer 2 as a low-cost layer and the storage layer 3 as an archive layer. Each storage layer is composed of a volume group corresponding to each policy (high reliability, low cost and archive). Data is relocated when the user designates volumes V1 and V2 of moving targets in a group unit and indicates a storage layer of a moving destination.
