    • PURPOSE:To form electrostatic images with favorable quality, by providing picture element electrodes arranged on one side of a dielectric or photoconductor layer, FETs provided between the electrodes and earth in correspondence respectively with the electrodes, and a charging mechanism disposed on the other side of the layer. CONSTITUTION:The picture element electrodes 2 and the FETs 3 are provided in matrix patterns on the surface of a substrate 1. The picture element electrode 2 is provided on an insulating film 5 so as to be connected with a drain electrode 8. A source electrode 7 is earthed, and the FET3 is disposed between the electrode 2 and the earth. A continuous layer 9 of a dielectric or a photoconductor is provided so as to cover the entire part of the electrodes 2 and the FETs 3, and the charging mechanism 10 such as a corona discharging mechanism is provided on the layer 9 so that it is capable of scanning. Accordingly, by using the combinations of the picture element electrode and the FET, electrostatic images with high surface potential and potential contrast can be formed by electrical signals with small output.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce a damage owing to electric discharge, and to reduce mechanical abrasion to prolong a service life by installing a recording head having laminated structure consisting of resistor layers and dielectric layer groups on a recording surface consisting of dielectric. CONSTITUTION:An electric discharge electrode 2 and a resistor layer 3 are opposed by way of an insulator 1 of sufficiently high dielectric strength. Further, an electrodes 5 is provided by placing a dielectric 4 having sufficiently high dielectric strength and the smallest possible dielectric constant therebetween. The electrode 2 and the layer 3 expose to the end face of a recording head, and if negative high voltage is applied to the electrode 2, electric discharge occurs between the exposed end face of the electrode 2 and the exposed end face of the grounded resistor 3. In this case, if the thickness and dielectric constant of the layer 4 are suitably selected, the quantity of electric discharge is maintained constant, and the damages owing to the electric discharge in the part for forming electrostatic latent images are reduced and the life is made long.
