    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging apparatus which is capable of reducing the adhesion of magnetic particles 135 to a photosensitive drum 1 at the longitudinal end portions of charging sleeves 131 and 132, and to provide an image forming apparatus.
      SOLUTION: The charging apparatus for charging the photosensitive drum 1 by contacting the magnetic particles 135 to the photosensitive drum 1, includes the charging sleeves 131 and 132 for carrying the magnetic particles; insulative portions 131a and 132a for electrically insulating from the magnetic particles, at the longitudinal end portions of the charging sleeve 131; and an electroconductive member 157 disposed for contacting the magnetic particles 135 carried on the insulative portions 131a and 132a. A voltage whose absolute value is lower than the absolute value of a voltage applied to the charging sleeves 131 and 132 is applied to the electroconductive member 157 or (and) a regulating blade 137 for regulating the magnetic particles carried on the charging sleeves 131 and 132 is insulative processed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent irregular density from being caused when a charged carrier deposits on an image carrying body by a magnetic brush charger in the upstream side of the moving direction of the image carrying body, in the configuration of an image forming apparatus having a plurality of magnetic brush chargers C1, C2 disposed in the moving direction of the image carrying body to charge the image carrying body 1.
      SOLUTION: The peak position S1P of magnetic force by a magnetic pole S1 of a magnetic field generating means 40 opposing to an image carrying body 1, the magnetic field generating means 40 enclosed in a conductive member 41 of a magnetic brush charger C2 located in the upstream side along the moving direction of the image carrying body, is located in the downstream side along the moving direction of the image carrying body from the nearest position between the conductive member 41 and the image carrying body 1. The peak position N1P of magnetic force by a magnetic pole N1 of a magnetic field generating means 30 opposing to the image carrying body 1, the magnetic field generating means 30 enclosed in a conductive member 31 of a magnetic brush charger C1 located in the downstream side along the moving direction of the image carrying body, is located in the upstream side along the moving direction of the image carrying body from the nearest position between the conductive member 31 and the image carrying body 1.
