    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an aperture ratio in a horizontal electric field driving mode and to easily control the number of electrodes.SOLUTION: A thin film transistor display panel includes gate lines 121, common electrodes 134, and common signal lines including common electrode lines 138. The gate lines 121 are bent on boundaries of pixel regions to define trapezoidal pixel regions on a substrate. The common electrodes 134 are arrayed in parallel with the gate lines 121. The common electrode lines 138 connect the plurality of common electrodes 134 and are arrayed in parallel with data lines 171. The data lines 171 and pixel signal lines are formed on a gate insulating film covering the gate lines 121 and the common signal lines. The data lines 171 intersect the gate lines to define the pixel regions. The pixel signal lines include pixel electrodes 174 arrayed in parallel with and in opposition to the common electrodes and pixel electrode lines 172 and 178 connecting a plurality of pixel electrodes. An alignment film for aligning liquid crystal molecules vertically to the data lines is formed on a protection film covering the data lines 171 and the pixel signal lines.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal cell ensuring transmittance and a contrast ratio and obtaining an excellent wide view angle range.
      SOLUTION: An electrode slit part 42 is formed in a pixel electrode 42 along a direction intersecting a slit for dividing a liquid crystal layer into a plurality of domains different from each other in the falling direction of director LC when applying voltage. A titanium oxide film 39 with a relative dielectric constant higher than that of an organic film formed in a position corresponding to the electrode slit part 42 is formed to be exposed to the liquid crystal layer side through the electrode slit part 42b. The electric field of each domain is set by the titanium oxide film 39, and an angle defined by the director LC near the electrode slit part 42b and a transmission axis of a polarizing plate is brought close to 45° to prevent the degradation of transmittance caused by the falling direction of the director LC. The excellent wide view angle range can thereby be obtained while ensuring transmittance and the contrast ratio.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal panel which prevents a light leak nearby side edges of a display electrode and a reference electrode. SOLUTION: On one surface of one of a glass substrate pair across a liquid crystal, scanning signal lines 102 and video signal lines 103 are provided to form a matrix, and at each pixel area, a thin film transistor 106 is mounted corresponding to the intersection of the scanning signal line 102 and video signal line 103. On one side of a reference signal line 109 provided over adjacent pixel areas, a reference electrode 105 is placed which projects to respective pixel areas in a comb shape. A comb-shaped display electrode 104 is provided to be engaged with the reference electrode 105. A light shield layer 111, which is 2 to 4 μm wider than the display electrode 104 and the reference electrode 105, is formed to overlap across an insulating film. A light leak is prevented even if liquid crystal molecules tilt with an electric field produced with a voltage applied between the display electrode 104 and reference electrode 105.
