    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical wavelength filter which has reduced change in wavelength characteristics due to dimensional errors relating to the production of an optical waveguide, in addition to or instead of change in wavelength characteristics due to temperature change, and which has an optical waveguide with a core made of a material with a high refractive index such as silicon.SOLUTION: An optical wavelength filter separates input light in which plural lights of different wavelengths are multiplexed into the wavelengths for outputting. The optical wavelength filter includes plural optical waveguides, each of which is constituted by a clad and a core having a high refractive index 1.4 times larger than that of the clad. Each of the waveguides is divided into a reference section serving as a reference and one or two adjustment sections for adjusting phase differences. Both the effective refractive index and the length of each of the optical waveguides in the reference section and the effective refractive index and the length of the optical waveguides in the adjustment sections are set in advance so that two light waves output from the output ends of two neighboring optical waveguides generate a predetermined phase difference.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop an optical module having an optical waveguide which can be manufactured at a relatively low cost while exhibiting a nearly non- diathermonic behavior. SOLUTION: The basic concept of this invention lies in the utilization of the advantage of temperature dependence different from that of a clad layer made of, for example, a polymer as compared with the waveguide itself without receiving the disadvantage by a secondary influence. The insertion of an additional coating layer between the clad layer and the waveguide according to this invention limits the overlap of a mode field existing in the waveguide on the clad layer described above.
