    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact neutron image detector using optical fiber, having less background with respect to gamma rays, and easy for manufacturing and maintenance. SOLUTION: A side-face light detection optical fiber is made by paring off a side face of a transparent optical fiber to inlet fluorescence from the side face. The optical fiber is used to actualize a neutron image detector suffering less background with respect to gamma rays by detecting fluorescence from a phosphor or a scintillator. Further, by making possible to lead the optical fiber to an electron multiplier tube by bending it at 90°, the size of the detector can be made smaller, while the detector is given a structure in which a detection part comprising a neutron detection medium and the side-face light detection optical fiber is separated from a read-out block using a clear fiber.
