    • PURPOSE:To inspect flaws continuously with high accuracy eliminating the need of selecting a flaw inspection mode, by providing an ultrasonic probe at the end part of a steel plate to be inspected to propagate a longitudinal wave in the steel plate. CONSTITUTION:A vertical probe 42 is contacted with the end part of a steel plate 40 and defects are detected by propagating a longitudinal wave WL to a direction of a plate width w. Vibrators 42S, 42B for inside and outside flaw inspection are provided aslant at the end part of the steel plate 40 and surface acoustic waves WS, WB propagating only inside and outside surface layer S, B are generated. Surface flaws are detected by a flaw detector 54 even when the vibrator 42 is used for the vertical flaw inspection. The internal defects are discriminated from the inside and outside surface defects by recording this flaw inspection signal in a recorder 56 once and comparing with reception signals from the vibrators 42S, 42B by a decision circuit 58. The discriminated defects are displayed by using a marker 59.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic testing method which has an enhanced degree of freedom of the arrangement of a transmitter and a receiver and capable of performing a test hardly restricted in the range of a test target part and a high degree of freedom, and also to provide an ultrasonic tester using it.
      SOLUTION: A sheet wave is formed in the test target 100 by transmitting an ultrasonic wave to the test target 100 from a transmitter 20 and the test target in the propagation route of the sheet wave is tested by receiving the sheet wave propagated through the test target by a receiver 30. Another probe being another receiver 30 or another transmitter 20 is arranged between the transmitter 20 and the receiver 30. Another probe is held to a probe holding mechanism 40 which has the support leg 46 coming into contact with the surface of the test target and keeping the angle of the other probe to the surface of the test target constant. Then, the other probe is allowed to straddle the sheet wave propagation route reaching the receiver from the transmitter in a non-contact state by the support leg 46.
