    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein a standard substance is required to be prepared always for measuring a retention time, because a retention index cannot be used in detection by an ECD detector, although the ECD detector is used widely as a highly selective and sensitive measuring method in gas chromatographic analysis at present.
      SOLUTION: Derivatives of fatty acids are prepared with a derivative forming reagent, using the fatty acids different in carbon numbers, to serve as "reference substances for ECD". A retention time of the each "reference substance for the ECD" and a retention time of each component are found under the same condition to serve as a "retention index for the ECD". Qualitative analysis is carried out in the retention time without measuring the standard substance, by using the "retention index for the ECD".
