CONSTITUTION:A light signal from a light emitting device 5 is transmitted to light emitting surfaces a-g, which are arranged on a light emitting part 4d of a liquid level detecting body 4 at a constant interval, through an optical fiber cable 6. The light beams are emitted from the light emitting surface a-g to light receiving surfaces a'-g' of a light receiving part 4e, and reach a light receiving device 10 through an optical fiber cable 9. The light signal is transduced into an electric signal and displayed on a display device 11. A light shielding plate 8, which is supported by a supporting rod 7a of a float 7, shields part of the light signals emitted from the light emitting surfaces a-g of the light emitting part 4d. Therefore, the light signals at that part do not reach the light receiving surfaces a'-g'. When the positions of the light receiving surfaces a'-g' of the light receiving part 4e, which do not receive the light, are detected, an interface L1 between the liquids having the different specific gravities can be found.
