    • PURPOSE: To enhance sensitivity and durability and to improve carrier transfer performance by forming a photosensitive layer contg. a specified disazo compd. on a conductive substrate.
      CONSTITUTION: Photosensitive layers 2aW2d formed on a conductive substrate 1 contains a disazo compd. represented by formula I in which Y is one of formulae II, III, and IV; X is one of H, methyl, methoxy, Cl, NO
      2 , etc.; Ar in formula II is phenyl or naphthyl; R
      1 , R
      2 in formula III are each alkyl or aryl; and AC= in formula IV is an aromatic hydrocarbon or heterocyclic group. The layer 2a is formed by dispersing said compd. into a binder and forming its layer on the substrate 1. The layer 2b is formed by dispersing it into a charge transfer medium 5 composed of a charge transfer substance and a binder. The layers 2c, 2d of multilayer structure contain said compd. in a charge carrier generating layer. As a result, the photosensitive layer high in sensitivity and durability, and superior in carrier transfer performance is obtained.
