    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein a conventional polarizing film with organic coloring matter oriented therein uses organic coloring matter having a sulfonic acid base comprising a sulfonic acid ion bonded to a monovalent cation but such a polarizing film has poor water resistance because the sulfonic acid base in the organic coloring matter is dissolved in water, while a water-resistant polarizing film can be formed by substituting a water-insoluble divalent cation for a monovalent cation in the sulfonic acid base, but a dichroic ratio is lowered by performing treatment for water resistance. SOLUTION: In order to provide a water-resistant polarizing film free from a lowered dichroic ratio, the positional relationship between adjacent sulfonic acid groups or sulfonic acid bases within the organic coloring matter used in the polarizing film subjected to treatment for imparting water resistance, is important. A method for manufacturing the water-resistant polarizing film is characterized in that the polarizing film before the treatment for imparting water resistance contains organic coloring matter of an azo compound represented by a formula (1) or (2), wherein Q 1 and Q 2 independently represent an aryl group that may have a substituent, R represents a hydrogen atom, an 1-3C alkyl group, an acetyl group, a benzoyl group or a phenyl group that may have a substituent, m is an integer of 0-5, n is an integer of 0-5 (m+n≤5 and at least one of m and n is not 0), k is an integer of 0-5, l is an integer of 0-5 (k+1≤5 and at least one of k and l is not 0), and M is an element for a monovalent cation.
