    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carbonization treatment means which forms carbonized matter by chemically decomposing organic matter such as garbage by using a catalyst with excellent carbonization efficiency, which is small in size, and in which exhaust gas does not contain components such as odors, black smoke and dioxin.SOLUTION: Garbage charged into a drum 4 is agitated by using a plurality of agitation blades 21 and 22 which are erected in the drum 4 and have different heights, while being brought into contact with a catalyst. Intermolecular covalent bonds of organic matter in the garbage are broken by the electron attracting action of the catalyst, so that the organic matter in the garbage is decomposed into carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen and other elements. Hydrogen is reacted with oxygen in the drum and discharged as steam together with nitrogen from a steam vent hole 25. Only the carbon component is allowed to remain as carbonized matter in the drum. The drum is rotated until the size of the carbonized matter becomes a predetermined size, and only the carbonized matter is taken out as a treatment product. The completion of the garbage treatment process is known by using the property that the temperature of the catalyst rises immediately before the organic matter in the garbage is completely carbonized, and by detecting the temperature rise.
