    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass optical elemental of high weather resistance that prevents elution of alkaline metals and alkaline earth metals from glass, and to provide a manufacturing method of the glass optical elemental, in which elution of alkaline metals and alkaline earth metals from the glass is prevented. SOLUTION: A protective layer, containing a fluorine ion or a fluorine compound, is formed on a surface of an optical element using glass which respectively contains oxides of alkaline metals and oxides of alkaline earth metals. The protective layer can be formed by a method of bringing a surface of the optical element into contact with hydrofluoric acid. When the glass optical element is a refractive index distributed type rod lens and the glass optical elemental device is a refractive index distributed type rod lens array, constituted with arranged the glass optical elements, weather ability thereof can be improved by the treatment.
