    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a reader for reading a document while conveying the document in which a wide document does not float when it is read out, and a narrow document can be read out without causing jamming and can be conveyed favorably.
      SOLUTION: A compound machine comprises a document feeder 18 capable of conveying a document of a different width in a conveyance path, an image sensor for reading a document at a reading position, and a press member 40a arranged oppositely to the image sensor in the vicinity of the reading position and cooperates with first platen glass 14a to hold the document conveyed by the document feeder 18. The press member 40a is divided into a plurality of sections in the width direction of the conveyed document. Since the press member 40a is divided and a pressing force applied to the document can be lessened even if a narrow document is conveyed, the jamming of the document caused by the application of an undue pressing force can be prevented.
