    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foil roll having a core of a wound stiffening material sent to a spiral roll winder simultaneously with the supply end of a foil web, by forming the core of the wound stiffening material out of a flat stiffening material sheet in the first place, and to provide an apparatus and a method for winding the foil roll having the core of the wound stiffening material for sending the stiffening material sheet to the roll winder in a state of positioning the front edge of the stiffening material slightly ahead of the supply end of the foil web.SOLUTION: The stiffening material sheet is arranged outside from the foil web, and is adjacent to a roll starter guide, and checks the contact between the guide and the foil web when forming the first core. After forming the first core, the roll starter guide moves from contact with the outer periphery of a roll, and winds the foil web around the core without damaging the web. This apparatus receives a continuous supply of a web material of foil and the stiffening material, and cuts the material in a predetermined length, and successively forms a foil roll of the economically wound core.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate coreless winding by mitigating force applied to a core without fixing an expanded state of the core, and to largely wind in coreless winding with the usage of an expansible and contractible core. SOLUTION: In a winding device, the expansible and contractible core 5 of which outer peripheral part is divided into plural sections in a circumferential direction is divided into two right and left sections and confronted with each other so as to be pivotally journaled to right and left movable frames 1 through a link 7, and an expansion and contraction mechanism 3 is interposed between the right and left movable frames. The right and left expansible and contractible cores 5 are abutted with each other by operation of the expansion and contraction mechanism 3, and thereby, the link 7 is raised, the core is expanded and winding is performed, a fastening pressure of a winding roll R is raised as winding proceeds, and the fastening pressure exceeds core expansion force by the link, and the link is made to fall, and the core is contracted, and thereby, the fastening pressure is reduced. After winding, the cores 5 abutted with each other by operation of the expansion and contraction mechanism 3 are separated and retreated, and the winding roll R to which the web is wound is removed from the core.
