    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly cool a high-temperature steel workpiece when passing through this cooling box which is a hollow cooling box for steel mills.
      SOLUTION: This box has an interior plenum which is formed with members with which the cooling box is formed. A cooling medium is supplied to this plenum under pressure and the cooling medium passes through a curved wedge-shaped slots which are one of members opposing to the workpiece when passing through the cooling box. The wedge-shaped slots are oriented a direction so that the widest part of the slot is on the upstream side of the passage of the workpiece.

    • PURPOSE:To restrict the generation of the wave of a web, by maintaining the flanges and the web of a hot rolled H-beam with thin web thickness at the specific temperatures respectively, and clamping the web by directly contacting type press plates to cool forcibly the outside surfaces of the flanges. CONSTITUTION:An H-beam 29 with thin web thickness consisting of a web 30 and flanges 31a, 31b is conveyed from a finish mill to a forced cooling yard. Here, the web part 30 is tightly clamped by contacting-projections 33a, 33b and 33c, 33d of directly-contacting type press plates 32a and 32b. Further, the temperatures of the flange and the web are maintained at the temperatures ranging Ar1 transformation point - 250 deg.C, and 550-100 deg.C respectively. Next, a cooling water is sprayed onto the outsides of the flanges 31a, 31b from the groups of nozzles 35a, 35b through water feeding pipes 37a, 37b to cool them. Thus, the web 30 is prevented from the generation of wave, and the wave is slight even if it generates.
