    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous dispersion of oxidized carbon black useful for aqueous black ink for use in a inkjet printer and aqueous ink. SOLUTION: This aqueous dispersion of the oxidized carbon black is made by liquid-phase oxidation of carbon black with a peroxo diacid or peroxo diacid salt so as to be 2-5 μmol/m 2 of a carboxyl group, neutralization of some or all of the carboxyl groups of the carbon black with an alkali solution of a dissociation constant (pKa) of 5 or less, and then a removal of a residual salt and purification, wherein the aqueous dispersion of the oxidized carbon black is classified so that, in the carbon black particle aggregate, an average particle diameter Dupa 50% is 50-130 nm, a maximum particle diameter Dupa 99% is 150-320 nm, and value of ΔDupa (mode)/Dupa (mode), the ratio of a half-band width in a particle size distribution ΔDupa (mode) to a mode diameter Dupa (mode), is 1.20 or less, and it is made by adjusting pH of the aqueous dispersion 4-6 and adding 1-6 wt.% (based on the carbon black) of a polyethyleneimine having a molecular weight of 200-1,000.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based black ink having excellent water dispersibility in water and a high level of blackness. SOLUTION: This water-based black ink is characterized by dispersing a carbon black having 30-300 m2/g nitrogen adsorption specific surface area (N2SA), 50-200 cm3/100 g DBP absorption volume, 40-160% specific tinting strength (Tint), >=3 μ equivalents/m2 sum total of carboxy groups and hydroxy groups in surface functional groups and 150-500 nm maximum particle diameter Dupa99% of agglomerates in an aqueous dispersion in water and regulating the pH of the dispersion to 5.0-9.0. The maximum diameter Dupa99% of the agglomerates indicates 99% cumulative frequency in a cumulative frequency distribution curve of agglomerate particle diameter prepared from the degree of frequency modulation of the scattered light by irradiating the aqueous dispersion of the carbon black with laser beams.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a member for a vapor phase growth apparatus which is excellent in oxidation resistance, plasma resistance, corrosion resistance, etc., and is usable stably for a long period of time. SOLUTION: This member for the vapor phase growth apparatus consists of an Si-containing glassy carbon material having a tissue structure which is uniformly dispersed and combined with Si of an atom level at a weight ratio of 0.5 to 15 wt.% in a glassy carbon structure and is uniformly distributed with the content (y) wt.% of O atoms existing in the structure within a range of ±2 wt.% of the content (x) wt.% of the Si atoms. The tissue structure has the structural characteristic in which the crystal structure substantially exclusive of a graphite structure does not substantially exist, the diffraction lines belonging to the metal Si and Si compound by the pattern analysis using an X-ray diffraction method are not detected and the granular structure is not identifiable by the observation of a transmission type electronmicroscope(TEM).
