    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an irradiation system which can fix, cure and dry an image by selectively irradiating an image forming region on a printing medium with radiation.
      SOLUTION: This marking system comprises at least one image affixing member for forming an image on a substrate by affixing a marking material to the substrate. The marking material includes a radiation-sensitive material. An addressable irradiation device receives the marked substrate from the image affixing member, and has an array of addressable irradiation elements which irradiate the marked substrate. At least some irradiation elements can be selectively actuated, and the addressable irradiation device emits the radiation within the wavelength range where the radiation-sensitive material shows sensitivity.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator which is used in an optical waveguide switch. SOLUTION: A thermal actuator 500 is formed with a substantially straight beam 510. The beam 510 is formed with a plurality of beam segments 520, 522 and 524. The beam segments 520, 522 and 524 have predetermined beam widths 525, 526 and 527, respectively. The beam 510 buckles when heated with a built-in heating means 528 and 546, the intermediate point 519 of the beam moves toward a predetermined direction 548 due to the buckling of the beam, and a built-in optical waveguide switch is operated by the movement of the intermediate point 519 of the beam.
