摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrahigh pressure mercury lamp which can gain a long life of use and high durability of air tightness in an air-tight sealing part. SOLUTION: With the ultrahigh pressure mercury lamp equipped with a discharge vessel made of a silica glass having a light-emitting tube and a sealing part, with mercury by not less than 0.16 mg/mm , rare gas, and halogen of by 2×10 to 7×10 μmol/mm sealed in the inner part space and with its inner pressure not less than 1×10 Pa, an air-tight sealing part is formed with an electrode rod extended in the sealing part and connected with a metal foil, and the surface of the metal foil is not exposed by a silica film having thickness of 80 to 2500 nm. The silica film is preferred to be formed by silica attached on the surface of the metal foil connected with the electrode rod, and halogen is preferred to be bromine.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flash lamp that is suited for applications, such as washing, surface reforming, and sterilization, and generates a long lifetime and strong ultraviolet rays. SOLUTION: In the flash lamp having an arc tube comprising single-crystal alumina, the arc tube having a Cr concentration of 0.1 wt.ppm or higher and 50 wt.ppm or smaller is used while a tube wall load lights at least at 40 kW/cm 2 . Further, the radiation light of the flash lamp is used, and the lamp is lit with a ratio B/A of 0.08 or higher of integral radiation intensity A having a wavelength of 130-1,000 nm to integral radiation intensity B having a wavelength of 130-300 nm, thus obtaining a high sterilization effect. Further, in applications, where ultraviolet rays from the flash lamp have been applied, sterilization can be made at speed corresponding to an industrially required line speed, thus obtaining a sterilization method and a sterilization apparatus using the flash lamp without causing the intensity of ultraviolet rays to decrease even after a long-term use.
