摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the oxidation resistance and room temperature strength of fiber reinforced ceramics in a high-temperature oxidizing atmosphere. SOLUTION: The glass-impregnated fiber-reinforced ceramics 7 are composed by including inorganic fibers 8 arranged in a prescribed direction and randomly, a ceramic matrix 9, enclosing the inorganic fibers 8 therein, integrally formed with the inorganic fibers 8 and having voids opened to the external space and a glass matrix 10 formed by closing at least the voids of the ceramic matrix 9 therein. Since the glass matrix 10 is capable of isolating the inorganic fibers 8 and the ceramic matrix 9 from oxygen in the atmosphere in a high- temperature oxidizing atmosphere, the oxidation is prevented to exclude a deteriorating factor in high-temperature strength based on the oxidation. Thereby, the high-temperature strength and the oxidation resistance are improved. Since the strength deteriorating factor based on notch effects of the voids is excluded due to the densification by the impregnation of the glass, the room temperature strength is improved.

The compsn. of the inner layer consists of 40-60wt.% Si, 20-40wt.% C and 0.1-3wt.% O. The C content of the 2nd surface layer part is higher than that of the inner layer by >=5wt.% and the total C content is =5wt.% and the total O content is >=60wt.%. The reinforcing material is blended with a ceramic matrix having 0.1μm to 1mm diameter and an aspect ratio of 1.5-1,000 and the resultant blend is heated at 800-1,500 deg.C in an inert gaseous atmosphere.
