    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for pretreatment of lignocellulose for obtaining a syrup enabling efficient ethanol fermentation at low cost using a lignocellulose-containing feedstock such as waste construction materials, and to provide a method for producing ethanol.
      SOLUTION: The method for the pretreatment of lignocellulose comprises the following process: A lignocellulose-containing feedstock is subjected to hydrolysis treatment in dilute sulfuric acid at 140-220°C for 3-20 min, the resultant hydrolyzate is subjected to solid/liquid separation into a primary syrup and a solid. The solid is incorporated with 0.5-20 mass% of quicklime on a dry basis heated at 90-200°C for 10-120 min to have calcification. Subsequently, cellulase is added to the resulting reaction product to be subjected to an enzymatic hydrolysis treatment to obtain a secondary syrup.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuously-feedable reaction apparatus which is provided with a reactor and a feeder for continuously feeding a raw material consisting of liquid content and solid content to the reactor while removing the liquid content and in which the yield of a reaction product is restrained from being decreased owing to fluctuations of the liquid content of the raw material to be fed to stabilize the yield of the reaction product.
      SOLUTION: Woody biomass such as a wood chip (including waste building material) is thrown in an agitation tank 1 together with excess amount of dilute sulfuric acid and mixed with dilute sulfuric acid. The liquid content of the obtained mixture is removed by a belt filter 2. The liquid content-removed mixture is thrown in the reactor 5 through a material-sealed screw feeder 4. A saccharide is produced by hydrolyzing woody biomass in the mixture by using dilute sulfuric acid as a catalyst while replenishing dilute sulfuric acid and keeping the temperature of the reactor by steam. The current of a motor 4m of the feeder 4 is detected by a detector 4d. The amount (concentration) of the sulfuric acid-containing liquid content of the raw materials to be thrown in the reactor is calculated in an arithmetic controller 6 by using the correlation between the current detected by the detector and the liquid content. A shortage is calculated by subtracting the calculated amount (concentration) of the sulfuric acid-containing liquid content from the amount (concentration) of sulfuric acid to be required to advance a hydrolysis reaction. The calculated shortage is supplied to the reactor 5 by controlling the opening degree of a sulfuric acid supply valve 7.
