Then, said core body is taken-out from a taking-up jig, and a steering wheel is transferred onto a shaping mold, and heated and pressed at a prescribed temperature and under a pressure, and a steering wheel 1 can be obtained. The spoke part 4 for connecting the rim part 2 and the boss part 3 is formed by nipping the spoke part 4 by using the upper and lower shaping molds 5 having a bent nearly semicircular groove and applying pressure is the direction of arrow.

    • PURPOSE:To enable to obtain a steering wheel core material with sufficient torsional rigidity by a method wherein the rotating shaft of a take up unit is directed in nearly the same direction as the direction, in which fiber bundle is supplied. CONSTITUTION:In order to form a steering wheel core material, the spoke parts 8 are formed by winding resin-impregnated fiber bundle 5 from one notched part 7 of a take-up jig 1 to a boss piece 4 while laminating a ring part 6. At that time, before winding the bundle to the boss piece, a rotating shaft 3 is turned by 90 deg. so as to direct the rotating shaft 3 in the same direction as the direction, in which the fiber bundle 5 is supplied in order to twist the fiber bundle 5. After the fiber bundle 5 is twisted in the above-mentioned manners, the rotating shaft 3 is again returned to its original direction to form the spoke part 8. By repeating the operation as mentioned above, the steering wheel core material made of fiber bundle, to the spoke part of which twisting is applied, is laminated.

CONSTITUTION:The raw yarn made of glass fiber is impregnated with epoxy- resin liquid and taken-up onto a taking-up jig. Through the repetition of the above-described taking-up in several times, a reinforced body 2 in the connection of a spoke part 3, ring part 8, and a subring part 9 is formed. Collar rings 10 made of aluminium are installed at the both edges of the spoke part 3, and the fiber bundles of the spoke part 3 are gathered by caulking or squeezing so that the circular section is obtained. The above-described fiber bundle is formed into the reinforced body 2 through heating treatment. Said reinforced body 2 is covered with urethane resin to form a steering wheel.

Because the continuous fiber is caused to have specially good wetting property to the resin 8 by ultrasonic vibration, the bundle 2 of the continuous fiber is easily impregnated with the resin 8.

The continuous fiber bundle is drawn out of the liquid resin 6 in the resin impregnating tank 1, squeezed through a die 7 and wound onto a take-up unit. During manufacturing a structural body, when the fiber bundle 5 reaches a hook 9', the rotation of a main column 8 is stopped and at the same time the resin impregnating tank 1 is rotated by means of the rotating shaft 4, resulting in twisting the fiber bundle 5. Due to the twisting of the fiber bundle through the rotation of the whole resin impregnating tank, the twisting operation can be performed very easily.
