    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an Ag-WC based contact material which suppresses the generation of a crack in a contact point due to an arc and is improved in relative density.SOLUTION: In a vacuum valve with a pair of contact points 5, 6 that are capable of contacting with and separating from each other, a contact material containing Ag, WC and at least one of Co, Ni and Fe as a binding auxiliary is used for the contact points 5, 6. The contact material is produced by shaping a mixed powder thereof with a predetermined pressure, sintering the compact at a temperature lower than the melting point of Ag, and infiltrating Ag into the sintered compact, so that the contact material has such a property that a coefficient of thermal expansion increases as the increase of temperature from a room temperature to the melting point of Ag.
