摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording medium capable of securing a sufficient tilt margin and mechanical strength even when recording density is heightened. SOLUTION: The information recording medium is provided with a substrate having recording surfaces in which embossed pits or guide grooves are provided, on the two opposite sides thereof, a reflection film, a first protective film, a phase change recording film, a second protective film, a third protective film and a fourth protective film which are formed on each of the two recording surfaces of the substrate. The information recording medium is irradiated with a light beam from the fourth protective layer side to reproduce recorded information. The distances from each recording surface of the substrate to the uppermost surfaces of the films laminated on each recording surface are shorter than the thickness of the substrate, the third protective film has 5λ/(4n) to 0.6 mm thickness (λ denotes the wavelength of the light beam and n denotes the refractive index of the third protective film of light having the wavelength λ), the uppermost surfaces are smooth and the refractive index n 3 of the third protective film and the refractive index n 4 of the fourth protective film in the wavelength of the light beam satisfy the relation represented by a formula: n 3 ≥n 4 .
