    • PURPOSE:To improve the effect of inoculation and to prevent entry of foreign matter by passing a molten metal through the through-hole disposed in the midway of a runner and provided in a central part. CONSTITUTION:An in-mold inoculant 7 having a through-hole is fixed in the midway of a vertical runner 2 of a casting mold 1 in the mold 1 in such a way that the through-hole parallels with the flow of a molten metal. The molten metal cast through a sprue 8 is cast into a product cavity 5 by contacting at all times with the wall surface of the through-hole provided in the inoculant 7. The shape of the through-hole is made circular to supply efficiently the effective component of the inoculant into the molten metal. The diameter of the through-hole is determined at 0.2 to 0.8 in the ratio of the total sum of the sectional area of the through-hole with respect to the sectional area of the runner 2 to be discharged therein with the inoculant in order to provide a substantial effect of inoculation. The remarkable effect of inoculation to suppress the generation of chill is obtd. as compared with the conventional in-mold inoculant.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent inoculating effect and to prevent defect owing to intrusion of foreign matter by melting an inoculant to be added in the stage of casting in a high speed melting furnace different from the same furnace for cast iron, and mixing the same in the form of liquid with the cast iron in the stage of casting the same. CONSTITUTION:A high speed melting furnace 6 for melting an inoculant tilts in synchronization with the tilting of a ladle 4, and the molten inoculant 7 is cast along the flow of the molten metal 3 charged from a ladle 4 into a casting mold 1. The molten inoculant 7 is admitted in the state of being still partly suspended as an uneven concn. in the molten metal into the cavity of the casting mold and therefore a remarkable effect of inoculation is provided in this stage. Since the inoculant 7 is added in the state of liquid, the intrusion of the undissolved material is obviated completely.
