    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane separation method useful for efficiently purifying clean water, sewage, human waste, industrial drainage or the like and efficiently cleaning an air diffuser with a simple apparatus, an immersion type membrane separator to be used therefor, and a method of cleaning the air diffuser to be used for the membrane separator.SOLUTION: The immersion type membrane separator includes a separation membrane module 2 to be immersed in a treatment tank 1 that stores liquid to be treated, the air diffuser 4 arranged below the separation membrane module, and an air supply device 7 that supplies air to the air diffuser through an air supply pipe. The air diffuser 4 comprises only a main pipe having no branching structure. The main pipe 4 of the air diffuser 4 has one or more turning parts. Both ends of the main pipe 4 of the air diffuser are connected to the air supply pipes 5 and 6, respectively. Valves (switching valves 10 and 11) are provided in one or both of the air supply pipes. The immersion type membrane separator opens/closes or switches the valves to change the direction of supplying air from the air supply tubes to the air diffuser, for cleaning the air diffuser.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane separation method which is useful in efficiently clarifying clean water, sewage, human waste, industrial waste water or the like and by which an air diffuser can be efficiently washed with an apparatus of simple constitution and to provide a dipping type membrane separation apparatus used therefor and a washing method of the air diffuser used therefor. SOLUTION: The dipping type membrane separation apparatus is equipped with a separation membrane module 2 which is provided by being dipped in a treating tank 1 storing liquid to be treated, the air diffuser 4 disposed below the separation membrane module and a gas feeding device 7 for feeding gas to the air diffuser via a gas feeding pipe. In the dipping type membrane separation apparatus, the air diffuser 4 is constituted only of a main pipe having no branched structure, the gas feeding pipes 5, 6 are respectively connected with both end parts of the main pipe 4 of the air diffuser and valves (stop valves 10, 11) are arranged at both or one of the gas feeding pipes. The dipping type membrane separation apparatus is used and the air diffuser is washed by changing a direction where gas is fed from the gas feeding pipe to the air diffuser by performing opening/closing or switching of the valves.
