SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a face plate for a golf club head includes the steps of providing a rolled sheet of metal material having an initial thickness and forming a blank having a prescribed outer shape from the material. The method also includes machining a second side of the blank such that the resulting face plate has a variable thickness. The machining is such that the plate has a first thickness less than or equal to the initial thickness, a second thickness less than the first thickness and a third thickness less than the second thickness. 摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a golf club head having a composite face insert attached to a metallic body. SOLUTION: The club head has a volume of at least 200 cc. The face insert includes a prepreg ply having a fiber weight per area (FAW) of 100 g/m 2 or less. The face insert preferably has a thickness of 4 mm or less and a mass of at least 10 grams lower than the insert of the equivalent capacity formed of the metallic material of the club head. The club head is also provided with a metal cap having a peripheral rim to protect the end of the composite material of the face insert. Consequently the resin content of the prepreg ply can be controlled by managing the timing when and the environment in which the ply obtained as the result is hardened and impregnated. The head body defines an opening part in a front part and has a frame supporting part around a peripheral edge of the opening part. A face plate is mounted within the opening part and has a transition radius along one or more edges to at least partially wrap around at least one of the crown, the sole, and the skirt. The head includes thin wall zones in the crown and the skirt, a hosel which is flush with the crown, and a weight mounted in the sole to be proximate to the face plate. Consequently, the golf club head has a center of gravity located relatively low and forward in the proximity of the face plate.
