    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high quality lightweight aggregate which is obtained by using, as a raw material, coal gasification slag discharged from a coal gasification furnace for coal gasification combined power generation, or the like, and which has a small density in oven-dried state surely satisfying the section of M or L provided by JIS A 5002. SOLUTION: The lightweight aggregate is obtained by firing and foaming the coal gasification slag containing Al 2 O 3 in an amount of ≤30 mass % at a prescribed temperature (e.g. 900-1,200°C), and has a density in oven-dried state of ≤1.7 g/cm 3 . The coal gasification slag used as the raw material of the lightweight aggregate may be obtained, after selecting coal so that the content of Al 2 O 3 in slag becomes ≤30 mass % after coal gasification treatment, by subjecting the coal to coal gasification treatment or obtained by selecting slag containing Al 2 O 3 in an amount of ≤30 mass % from several kinds of slag obtained by coal gasification treatment.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for preventing the elution of heavy metals, which can sufficiently prevents even an object to be processed such as soil heavily contaminated by the heavy metals from causing the elution of the heavy metals at a small additive amount.SOLUTION: The material for preventing the elution of the heavy metals contains a light-burned magnesia-part hydrate (A) configured by partially hydrating a light-burned magnesia, and a clay (B) in which a total extraction rate of silica (SiO) and alumina (AlO) from the clay, measured by an allophane quantitative test, is 20 mass% or more, wherein the mass ratio of (A) to (B) falls within the range of 0.2-20.
