    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical catalyst exhibiting high shift reaction activity even under a reaction condition of high space velocity and small deterioration of the activity even if being used under a condition such that the catalyst is exposed at a high temperature or the atmosphere is fluctuated. SOLUTION: A noble metal is supported on a support composed of a multiple oxide in which ceria and alumina are dispersed in nanometer scale. It is desirable for the multiple oxide to have a characteristic that the fine pore diameter becomes 3.5-100 nm the fine pore volume becomes ≥0.20 cc/g after being fired at 800°C for 5 hr. Alumina works as a barrier among the particles of ceria to suppress the grain growth of seria. Because the decrease of the oxygen storing and releasing ability of the ceria is suppressed further in such a way, the fluctuation of the atmosphere is mitigated to suppress the grain growth of the noble metal.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means of increasing an absorption capacity of SO x , and at the same time, shifting a temperature where SO x is discharged in rich atmosphere to a higher-temperature region. SOLUTION: The constitution comprises a carrier 2 having at least the same specific surface area or more compared to MgAl 2 O 4 , a solid solution suppressing layer 4 formed at least on the surface of the carrier 2 to suppress the solid solution of Mg to the carrier, at least MgO 5 supported on the solid solution suppressing layer 4, and an oxidation catalyst metal 6 supported on the solid solution suppressing layer 4. Since the carrier having the same specific surface area or more compared to MgAl 2 O 4 is used, the absorption capacity of SO x increases remarkably. Further, the presence of MgO enables the keeping of the condition that SO x is absorbed up to the high-temperature region of about 600°C even in rich atmosphere to suppress the discharge.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst which is capable of combusting an adsorbed high boiling point hydrocarbon from a lower temperature region and exhibits high cleaning activity even after the thermal duration. SOLUTION: The catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas consists of a main carrier consisting of a multiple oxide M-TiO X in which an oxide of at least one kind of metal M of Ta and Nb is solidly dissolved in one part of TiO 2 and SiO 2 colloid, an oxide having oxygen absorbing/desorbing ability, zeolite and a noble metal deposited at least on the main carrier. Although the reason is unknown, the dispersibility of noble metal deposited metal is drastically enhanced because of the inclusion of a small amount of SiO 2 colloid and the particle growth during the thermal duration is suppressed. Further, even in the state that the catalyst interface is covered with the high boiling hydrocarbon, the high boiling point hydrocarbon can be completely combusted from a low temperature region because oxygen is supplied to the catalyst interface.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst exhibiting a high hydrogen generating activity ranging from a low temperature region to a high temperature region, with superior heat resistance and suppressed against sulfur poisoning.
      SOLUTION: This catalyst comprises a carrier containing at least θ-type alumina and a noble metal carried by the carrier. The θ-type alumina has a large specific area, the carried noble metal has no defect of being stabilized in an oxidized state, and is easily reduced to a metal state. Since the θ-type alumina has a strong acidic property, sulfur oxides are suppressed from coming close, and the sulfur oxides adsorbed in the carrier is easily released.
