    • PURPOSE:To change properly a damping force and improve riding quality in a variable damping force shock absorber by constitutionally increasing the damping force during a predetermined period in which detected car height exceeds a predetermined value and then reaches the neutral car height. CONSTITUTION:Car height detected by car height sensors H1L, H1R, H2C are sent to the input of an electronic controller ECH4 which obtains the average of input car height or the highest car height to determine car height A and compare it with a car height change set value A0. And when the car height A exceeds the set value A0 current is supplied to damping force actuators A1L, A1R, A2L and A2R after waiting by a predetermined Lime-lag tb to change largely the damping force. Then ECU4 detects the car height A, judges whether or not it returns to the neutral car height and changes the damping force smaller when it returns to the neutral one. Thus, th damping force can be changed every half cycle to improve riding quality.

    • PURPOSE:To shorten the time from the time point at which a vehicle body vertically oscillates to the time point at which the vehicle body returns to its neutral vehicle height level, by decreasing the damping force of a shock absorber until the midway of return of the vehicle body to its neutral vehicle height level, and by increasing the damping force after the midway of the return. CONSTITUTION:A means M1 detects the vertical motion of a vehicle body. Further a means M2 changes the damping force of a shock absorber disposed between the vehicle body and the wheel in accordance with an instruction fro the outside. During a predetermined time during which the vertical motion of the vehicle body detected by the means M1 changes in the direction toward the neutral vehicle height level, a means M3 delivers a signal for changing the damping force into a large value, to the means M3. With this arrangement the damping force of the shock absorber is held at a small value until the midway of return oscillation in which the vehicle body is moved from the neutral vehicle height level and is then moved back to the neutral vehicle height level so that the oscillation of the vehicle body is rapidly settled. Meanwhile after the midway of the return, the damping force is increased to restrain the oscillation of the vehicle body.
