    • PURPOSE:To return intricate elliptically polarized light to complete linearly polarized light by laminating many thin inorg. films which are diagonally deposited by evaporation at every specified angle shifted in the intra-surface bearing of the substrate in the vapor deposition direction of the substrate by as much as the angle equal to the twist angle of a supertwisted nematic type liquid crystal element. CONSTITUTION:This phase compensation plate is formed by laminating the many thin inorg. films 8 which are diagonally deposited by evaporation at every specified angle shifted in the intra-surface bearing of the substrate in the vapor deposition direction of the substrate 2b by as much as the angle equal to the twist angle of the liquid crystal cell. Optical rotatory power can, therefore, be imparted in addition to double refractiveness to the compensation plate so that the plate has the optical properties equiv. to the optical properties of the supertwisted nematic (STN) type liquid crystal panel. The complete linearly polarized light is obtd. in this way from the transmitted light of the STN type liquid crystal panel. The complete phase compensation is thus possible and the coloration is entirely eliminated.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal element excellent in durability and visuality by unitedly forming a transparent electrode and a 1/4lambda phase difference plate by an oblique evaporation film. CONSTITUTION:The oblique evaporation film 5 having both the functions of the 1/4 (wavelength) phase plate and the transparent electrode is formed on the surface of one end face of a plane glass 2. Incident light beams from the side of the transparent base (plate glass) 1 to a liquid crystal layer 11 are straight polarized by absorption based upon the liquid crystal layer 11. Namely, incident light beams consisting of a component rectangular to the long axis direction of a dichromatic dye (guest) having orientation coincident with nematic liquid crystal (host) kept at a state that no electric field is not impressed to the liquid crystal layer are absorbed by an ITO film to be the transparent electrode and the evaporation film 5. The straight polarized light beams are circularly polarized in the clockwise or counterclockwise direction by the oblique evaporation film 5, reflected by an Al reflecting mirror face 20, reversed at its circular polarization direction, transmitted through the evaporation film 5 again, and then made incident upon the liquid crystal layer 11 again in the direction rectangular to the original straight polarized light to absorb the light. Thus, the reflection factor of the incident light beams is controlled to obtain glare shielding state.

    • PURPOSE: To enhance the adhesiveness of a thin metal film, a resin and an electrostatic film layer without requiring primer coating, in sputtering treatment, by specifying a metal to be used and a film thickness.
CONSTITUTION: In a first process according to a method for the electrostatic painting of a resin material such as a car bamper, a thin metal film 3 is directly formed to the surface of a molded resin product 1. In this case, the metal used under a sputtering treatment condition is set to one of silver, chromium and an alloy thereof and the thickness of the formed thin metal film 3 is set to 50W500Å. Next, electrostatic painting 4 is applied onto the thin metal film 3 formed to the surface of the resin product in a second process to complete the desired painting of the molded resin product 1.
