In this case, as the grinding wheel 16 is shifted from the position shown by two dots chain line to the position shown by a full line when the work is rotated by one turn, a place ground by the tapered parts 19A, 19B in the previous one turn has to be ground by the straight part 18 of a dull grinding wheel 16, but the amount of an oblique line part H which has to be ground by the straight part 18 is extremely reduced by the existence of the rear step tapered part 19A with a small taper angle thus a heat generation amount is reduced.

In that case, part of the portion (b) is measured using the measuring instrument 16 and is then plunge cut, and when the measuring instrument 16 outputs a signal indicating that the diameter of the cylindrical portion (a) has reached a desired value, a coordinate system in the direction (z) perpendicular to the axis of workpiece is reset according to the signal output from the measuring instrument 16, and the cylindrical portion (a) and corner portion (b) of workpiece W are continuously ground according to the coordinate system reset.

CONSTITUTION:When an electrodeposition grinding stone is used to grind an object to be ground, at the time of grinding, the pressure works on a grinding grain 33, at first works on a matrix 31 by which the grinding grain 33 is held, and finally works on a substrate 1. As the matrix 31 is formed of a hard nickel, movement of the grinding grain 33 in the matrix 31 is small. In the matrix 31 between the grinding grain 33 and the substrate 1, a diamond harder than nickel, or a small grain body 32 composed of cubic system boron nitride, which is harder than the matrix alone of the nickel between the grinding grain 33 and the substrate 1. The grinding grain on which grinding force works is held in the small grain body 32, and the pressure is distributed.
