摘要： PURPOSE:To enable the use of an inexpensive ruthenium catalyst, reduce the formation of impurities and economically and economically and advantageously produce the subject compound by hydrogenating a dialkyl isophthalate in two divided stages. CONSTITUTION:Hydrogen is introduced into the upper or lower end of a fixed bed continuous type hydrogenation apparatus filled with a ruthenium hydrogenating catalyst and a raw material dialkyl isophthalate or a hydrogenation product in the first stage or in both are then subjected to hydrogenating reaction under constant conditions. The resultant reactional product and the excess hydrogen are subsequently discharged. Hydrogen is then introduced into the upper or lower end of the fixed bed continuous type hydrogenation apparatus filled with a copper chromite hydrogenating catalyst and the reactional product in the first stage or compounds expressed by formula I (R is alkyl), formula II or III and the hydrogenation product in the first stage are hydrogenated under constant conditions to discharge 1,3-cyclohexanedimethanol and the excess hydrogen from the lower or upper end of the apparatus. Furthermore, the hydrogenation apparatus equipped with a perforated plate in the lower part thereof is preferably used. The resultant 1,3-cyclohexanedimethanol is useful as a raw material for polyester-based compounds.

摘要： PURPOSE:To enable adoption of a ruthenium catalyst more inexpensive than palladium, to make it possible to carry out hydrogenation reaction of the first stage under a milder condition than the conventional method, in order to produce 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol more economically and advantageously. CONSTITUTION:1,4-Cyclohexanedimethanol is produced successively through the first process wherein hydrogen is introduced to a stationary bed continuous type hydrogenation device packed with a hydrogenating catalyst of ruthenium, simultaneously the first raw material and the first-stage hydrogenation reactional product are fed to the device, the hydrogenation reaction of the first stage is carried out and the reactional product and excessive hydrogen are discharged from the device and the second process wherein hydrogen is introduced to a stationary bed continuous type hydrogenation device packed with a hydrogenating catalyst of copper chromite, simultaneously the second raw material and the first-stage hydrogenation reactional product are fed to the device, the second- stage hydrogenation reaction is carried out and the reactional product and excessive hydrogen are removed from the device.
