That is, when the combinational processing of enclosing ruled line processing and half-tone dot meshing processing is indicated, the size of the enclosing ruled line is calculated in accordance with the number of characters as the character modification object, and graphic data of this size and character data of the character modification object are synthesized. The inside of the enclosing ruled line surrounding the generated character data is subjected to half-tone dot meshing processing.
